Traditional Rabbit and Mole control

Traditional Rabbit, Mole and Gull control throughout Devon and Cornwall.

Rabbits

We aim to reduce your rabbit problems using a combination of traditional methods including:

  • Shooting; the actual choice of gun depends on several factors, but could include, 17hmr rimfire rifles, shotguns or air rifles, it goes without saying that safety is paramount at all times, so in some circumstances shooting is not appropriate.
  • Ferreting; as with shooting the location (and time of year) will have a bearing on the suitability of ferrets, these are normally used in conjunction with nets either purse nets or long nets depending on the location.
  • Trapping; this is carried out with 'approved spring traps', all such traps must be set within a rabbit hole or an artificial tunnel and must be checked at least every 24hrs
  • Live capture cage traps, which allow for the release or humane destruction of the captured animal.
  • Drop boxes can be installed in conjunction with rabbit proof fencing and are extremely effective, in fact they are possibly the most effective form of control, but are expensive to install.

Our service is available to small gardeners, nurseries, farmers, National trust properties, private estates and country parks, no job is to small or too large. An initial meeting and survey is free, actual costs will vary depending on the scale of work and methods employed please contact us for further information.

Moles

We aim to reduce or eliminate your mole problem, this is achieved in a traditional manner by the use of  traps, we do not use poisons or gasses nor do we try to blast them out of the ground, which apart from being illegal is extremely cruel.

Moles are very well adapted for their lifestyle, they have fur which unlike most animals does not lie flat to their bodies, this allows the mole to move backwards and forwards without becoming covered in soil, they need to consume their own body weight in earth worms every 24hrs as moles weigh between 4oz and 6oz this means they must consume 50lbs or so of worms per year. Its no wonder they need to tunnel and as a consequence put up molehills, but with the size of their front limbs you can understand how they are able to dig shallow tunnels at a rate of about 18 feet per hour! A mole can travel through existing tunnels at about 80ft per minute.
